| The National Day of Prayer (NDP) is an event deeply rooted in our
country's history. The concept of setting aside time to pray for the nation
and it's leaders originated with America's founding fathers. It was the
First Continental Congress which initially declared a national day of prayer
in 1775. In 1952, congress passed a federal statute recognizing a National
Day of Prayer. In 1988 President Ronald Reagan signed a law setting aside
the first Thursday in May as the date on which the National Day of Prayer
is officially observed. Please prayerfully consider joining in the
efforts to unite together on the first Thursday in May. |
Teens encouraged to kick off the yearly celebration
on the eve of the National Day of Prayer
The National Day of Prayer is an annual event in which millions of
American unite to pray for our country and leaders. The National Day of
Prayer Task Force has played an integral role in helping individuals at
the local level to organize observances on the first Thursday in May. Christian
rock band Third Day is teaming with the NDP Task Force to call America's
youth to pray for their schools, their communities and this nation. This
year, the NDP Task Force is introducing a new concept entitled, Freedom
-- an attempt to encourage teens to kick off the yearly celebration on
the eve of the National Day of Prayer (Wednesday, April 30, 2003). The
vision is for youth pastors to partner together and help their students
organize a community praise and worship event for teens. Freedom will be
a student-led event that brings teens together on the common ground of
prayer and can be used as an evangelistic opportunity. Freedom is something
special! It is an event that brings young people from different churches
of different denominations together to pray and worship the same God. Not
only can this event spark a desire for Christian teens to grow in their
faith, it can also provide an opportunity to reach young people for Christ. |

2003 Prayer for the Nation
Dr. Luis Palau has written a prayer specifically for the efforts
of the National Day of Prayer. The Task Force is encouraging Americans
from coast-to-coast to pray this prayer at 12 Noon wherever they are on
May 1, 2003.
Prayer for the Nation
By Dr. Luis Palau
Our Father and our God,
We thank you for the many blessings You have poured out
on America and we praise You for Your mercy.
You have said: "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace
to any people."
We confess, O Lord, our national and personal sins.
We repent and ask forgiveness for all actions that dishonor You.
O God, bless our President and other leaders.
Provide them with wisdom and move them to honor You.
Deliver this great nation from all our enemies as we recommit
ourselves to trust, serve and obey Your commands.
We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
Amen.

Somebody's Praying Me Through
Somebody's Praying Me Through With Military Testimonies is available
now on Allen Asbury’s record, Somebody’s Praying Me Through at your local
Christian bookstore and other stores such as Wal-mart. Look for the yellow
ribbon sticker on Allen’s solo record to be assured the Military Version
is on the record.
“Somebody’s
Praying Me Through,” the title track from Allen Asbury’s Doxology Records’
debut project and theme for this year’s National Day of Prayer, will be
featured as part of the Focus on the Family
radio broadcasts May 1st.
Asbury commented, “It’s amazing to see the impact that this song
continues to have on people across the country and around the world. Sometimes
the circumstances of life can leave us feeling helpless, but I believe
that God hears the prayers of His people.” He continued, “I would encourage
everyone to spend time praying for our country and the brave young men
and women who have volunteered to place themselves in harm’s way to protect
our freedoms.”
I have heard this recording on my local Christian radio station.
It is fabulous. |
