Framed Slats Selection Tutorial

This tutorial assumes you know the basics of PSP
Level: Intermediate
Supplies:
PSP v9 but can be adapted to other versions
A tube no larger than 375 on all sides or resize
My-Selections2.pspimage
Gold-foil.gif
Zip files contains the tube I used, Gold-foil.gif and the selection image

Preparations:
Open zip file into a folder of your choice.
Place Gold-foil.gif into your PSP patterns folder
All settings will remain the same unless stated otherwise.
Assume Symmetric is checked unless stated otherwise.
1. Open Tube in PSP. Windows / Duplicate. Close original
2. Open My-Selections2.pspimage in PSP. Windows / Duplicate. Close original
3. Flood fill My-Selections2.pspimage with white.
4. In the materials palette, choose a light color from your tube in the foreground and a darker color in the background. It works best if shades of one color is used.
5. In the materials palette, set the foreground to gradient - Angle 45, Repeats 3, Linear. Set the background to Gold-foil.gif.
6. Minimize tube for later use.
7. Working on the copy of the selections template, Layers / New Raster Layer. Rename this layer Left Triangle.
8. Selections / Load/Save Selection / Load Selection from Alpha Channel - Choose Left Triangle - Load
9. Fill this selection with the gold pattern. Deselect
10. Layers / New Raster Layer. Rename this layer Left Inner Triangle.
11. Selections / Load/Save Selection / Load Selection from Alpha Channel - Choose Left Inner Triangle - Load
12. Fill this selection with the gradient. Deselect
13. Lower the opacity of this layer to 50.
14. Layers / New Raster Layer. Rename this layer Right Triangle
15. Selections / Load/Save Selection / Load Selection from Alpha Channel - Choose Right Triangle - Load
16. Fill this selection with the gold pattern. Deselect.
17. Layers / New Raster Layer. Rename this layer Right Inner Triangle
18. Selections / Load/Save Selection / Load Selection from Alpha Channel - Choose Right Inner Triangle - Load
19. Fill this selection with the gradient. Deselect.
20. Layers / New Raster Layer. Rename this layer Right Stripes
21. Selections / Load/Save Selection / Load Selection from Alpha Channel - Choose Right Stripes - Load
22. Change your gradient angle to 90.
23. Fill this selection with the gradient. DO NOT DESELECT.
24. Effects / 3D effects / Drop Shadow - V & H 1, Opacity 20, Blur 5, Color Black, Shadow on new layer unchecked.
25. Deselect
26. Layers / New Raster Layer. Rename this layer Left Stripes
27. Selections / Load/Save Selection / Load Selection from Alpha Channel - Choose Left Stripes - Load
28. Fill this selection with the gold pattern. DO NOT DESELECT.
29. Effects / 3D effects / Drop Shadow
30. Deselect
31. Layers / New Raster Layer. Rename this layer Border
32. Selections / Load/Save Selection / Load Selection from Alpha Channel - Choose Outside Border - Load
33. Fill this selection with the gold pattern. DO NOT DESELECT.
34. Effects / 3D effects / Inner Bevel - Bevel # 2, width 3, smoothness 20, depth 2, ambience & shininess 0, color white, angle 315, intensity 50, elevation 30
35. Selections / Invert
36. Be sure you have the border layer highlighted. Effects / 3D effects / Cutout - H & V 5, Opacity 85, Blur 10, shadow color black. Layers / new raster layer. Repeat Cutout using minus 5 (-5). Layers / Merge Down
37. Deselect
38. Maximize the tube. Resize to no larger than 375 on the longest side using Smart Size. Edit / Copy
39. Copy / Paste as new layer. Rename this layer Tube Add a drop shadow if desired. (Optional - position the tube slightly lower and to the right)

40. IMPORTANT: In the layer palette, arrange the layers from top:
Border
Tube
Left Stripes
Left Inner Triangle
Right Stripes
Left Triangle
Right Inner Triangle
Right Triangle
Background.
41. Layers / Merge all (flatten)
42. Adjust / Brightness & Contrast / Clarify 2
43. Layers / New Raster Layer.
44. Add your watermark
45. Layers / Merge all (flatten)
46. Save as a pspimage blank. You can always open this file and add text as desired.
47. Resize image to 250 x 250.
48. Layers / Promote Background Layer
49. Image / Canvas Size - 1280 x 250. Click lower left arrow.
50. Change gradient angle back to 45.
51. Layers / New Raster Layer.
52. Layers / Arrange / Send to bottom
53. Fill this layer with the gradient.
54. Adjust / Add/Remove Noise / Add noise - Gaussian 10, monochrome checked.
55. Effects / Image effects / Seamless Tiling at default setting.
56. Layers / New Raster Layer.
57. Fill with the light color your chose earlier.
58. In the layers palette, lower the opacity of this layer to about 60 (or as desired)
59. Highlight border layer and add a drop shadow.
60. Layers / Merge all (flatten)
61. File / Export / jpg optimizer - 25%.
62. Assemble in Letter Creator.
